But don’t let the glitz and glamour scare you, the Emerald Ball is a great way for amateur ballroom dancers to get their feet wet. The Emerald ball is also a great way to see fantastic ballroom dancing performances by professional ballroom dancers and get inspired by some of the top ballroom dancing competitors in the world.

About The Emerald Ball Dancesport Championships

Started in 1963, The Emerald Ball was created by ballroom dancers Ken and Sheila Sloan in San Mateo, California. In 1989 professional ballroom dance competitors Wayne and Donna Eng purchased the Emerald Ball from Ken and Sheila and the event has just grown in popularity year after year. This year, with over 15,000 Pro/Am dance entries alone, the Emerald Ball is now one of the largest ballroom dancing competitions in the entire United States.

The dance event attracts both amateurs and professionals from across the US and abroad with an incredibly high level of ballroom dancing and prize money. Recent additions to the lineup of events are additional Pro/Am Rising Star Rhythm and Smooth Multi-Dance competitions as well as more age levels in the Pro-Am events. Other notable features of the Emerald Ball include no split floors for both Pro/Am and Smooth events as well as the use of a minimum of eleven judges for all Pro/Am Scholarship events and a top teacher cash purse $7,000 prize.

It may be big, but the Emerald Ball is also a great event for amateur dancers who are just starting out with competitive ballroom dancing. Dancing at the Emerald Ball is a great goal to strive for, and is also one of the best places to watch ballroom dancing and get inspired by some of the top Ballroom dancers in the world. Whether you enjoy International Ballroom, International Latin, American Rhythm or American Smooth, you are sure to be inspired by the exceptional level of dancing that is on display.

The Emerald Ball also hosts the World Smooth Summit and the Emerald Ball Dance Camp at the same time making it convenient to take classes as well as watch the dance competition. While the dance camp is open to all ballroom dance students, amateurs and professionals, it is not for beginners. Instructors ask that you be proficient in at least Bronze-level ballroom dancing since the dance classes will include specialized instruction in ballroom technique, muscle building exercises, dance styling, artistic impressions and much much more.

If you want to be the best, then you have to learn from the best and there is no better place to start than at the Emerald Ball.
