Emerald Ball Ballroom Dance Competition

Congratulations to our ballroom dancers who competed in the 2023 Emerald Ball Ballroom Dance Competition.

The Emerald Ball Ballroom Dancesport Championships is held in Los Angeles every May and is one of the largest ballroom dance competitions in America, offering dance workshops, private lessons, Pro/Am competitions, and more. If you are a competitive ballroom dancer, the Emerald Ball is a must-do dance competition to capture your ranking on the national scene.

Ballroom dancer Tony Juels danced with Deborah and earned 16 first places and 9 second places dancing Salsa, Bachata, West Coast Swing, and Hustle. Tony also placed 5th in his Ballroom Championship.

Hustle dancer Dede Dunbar earned 5 first places in Hustle dancing with Shay Dixon.

Ballroom dancer Valerie danced with Guillermo and earned 4 first places, 5 second places, and 1 third place in American Rhythm Single Dances. Valerie also came in 4th place in her Scholarship and 5th in her Championship. Valerie was also a finalist in her American Smooth Viennese Waltz.

What is a Ballroom Championship?

A Championship contains multi-dance events which means the overall winner for all of the dance events combined is the winner. This category is coed, lead and follow vs. the single dances that are role-specific, lead or follow).

What is the difference between American Rhythm and American Smooth Ballroom?

The American Rhythm dances are Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo, in that order. The American Smooth ballroom dances are Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz, in that order.
