The Desert Classic Dancesport Championships is an annual dance competition held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, California, every second weekend of July. This year’s event, scheduled from July 10–14, 2024, promises excitement and fierce competition. As part of the prestigious DanceSport Series, it’s a hotspot for Pro/Am dancers vying for points and regional and national acclaim. With over $90,000 in prize money up for grabs, along with Top Teacher awards, Pro/Am and Amateur Scholarships, and prize vouchers, the stakes are high!

Competitors at Desert Classic span various age groups, from the youthful Pre-Teen, Junior, and Youth divisions to adults and seniors. Whether you’re a Pro/Am participant aged 7 and under or 71–80, or a student eager to showcase your skills, there’s a category for everyone. Students can enter at any level of dance and progress through the ranks, mastering multiple styles along the way.

Dancesport is a demanding yet exhilarating sport, requiring couples to perform a series of dances before discerning judges. It’s a true test of athleticism, calling for strength, agility, stamina, and teamwork, all while exuding grace, style, and musicality. Divided into two leaguesβ€”American Standard Ballroom and International Ballroom – dancesport encompasses a range of dances tailored to each league’s specifications. Governed by dancesport organizations like the World DanceSport Federation, the sport’s evolution aims at securing recognition on the Olympic stage.
